Getting to Problem Resolution
We all know we need to find and solve problems before our customers are affected. However, we have all been conditioned to accept significant limitations, all of which stems from incomplete information.
Why do we live with incomplete information?
- The more information we gather, the more of an adverse affect it has on our production systems.
- The more information we have, the harder it is to find the important pieces.
The effect of incomplete information
We are forced into a compromise where we sacrifice details and visibility which leads to one of two things:
- Something goes wrong and you don’t know about it before your users.
- You know something is wrong but you can’t figure out where it’s coming from without an exhaustive process of elimination and inferences in areas where you lack detail.
The Solution
At AppFirst we work hard to remove the limitations due to incomplete information. We:
- Gather data for every component in your stack and all language runtime environments without impacting your production systems. We call this "miss nothing" data collection.
- Utilize information gathered from Nagios, Windows Performance Counters, log files and OS interfaces to correlate with “miss nothing” data in order to provide views in a specific context. We call this polled data since the information is gathered on intervals.
- Present data clearly and simply to help you easily identify problems and patterns.
Our Values
- Customer-centric - we start from the premise that we are successful only if our customers are successful.
- Transparency - all communications are critical, with employees, customers, partners, and shareholders.
- People first - we value trust, respect, and individual opinions – we live by the "golden rule."
- Fun - we create a fun and productive environment in our offices and on our website
- Give Back - we live within a community that supports us, and we commit to support it in meaningful ways.
