Knowing What Your Application Really Needs in Production

To fully leverage Cloud and/or virtualization the key is to know your entire application stack from the inside out. What do I mean by that? Today there are a boat load of tools that will tell you when a VM or Cloud Instance is hitting capacity on CPU, Memory or Disk…but none of them know why.

By knowing the inside out view of your application stack “inside the workloads” you can get the details of what each component is using to know what part of your application architecture can best run in your current choices of infrastructure.

For example, imagine if parts of your application are extremely file I/O intensive while other components of your application stack are not, you would utilize this profile of your application production “reality” to distribute the I/O intensive components on fast local storage while the other parts of your application could leverage a cost efficient cloud infrastructure.
